Moroccan Oil vs. Macadamia Oil: An Argan Oil Duel!

One of the biggest trends in hair styling at the moment is the use of argan oil hair products. Two of the most popular argan oil-based products are Moroccan Oil Treatment by Moroccan Oil and Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment by Macadamia Natural Oil. We previously carried both of these lines at Spa Boutique, but unfortunately we are no longer carrying the Moroccan Oil line because Moroccan Oil prefers their products to be sold in salon (by professional) only and not online.
As a Spa Boutique Esthetician, I am constantly exposed to the latest and greatest hair, skin, body, and nail products which is why I have tried many different argan oil products including both Moroccan and Macadamia Oil. So, is there a difference? In terms of performance, I found them to be exactly the same. They are both excellent at hydrating, smoothing, and adding shine to my hair. There was just one small difference which made me a lover of one over the other – the smell! The Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment has the most amazing smell (reminds me of vanilla) and I wasn’t that fond of the smell of the Moroccan Oil Treatment (although some co-workers loved the smell – personal preference). Here is a breakdown of the differences between the two oil treatments:
Moroccan Oil Treatment
Key Ingredient: Argan oil (fatty acids, omega-3, vitamins, and antioxidants)
Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment
Key Ingredients: Macadamia nut oil and argan oil (fatty acids, omega-9, vitamins, and antioxidants)
The benefits and usage of both treatments are the same:
Benefits: Instantly absorbs, nourishes hair, smooths, adds shine, controls frizz, protects from UV exposure, and reduces drying time.
Usage: Apply a small amount to damp or dry hair and comb through or work through with hands.
Both Macadamia Healing Oil and Moroccan Oil treatments can be applied to hair before coloring to seal in the hair cuticle and allow for an even application. They also help to protect hair from damaging chemicals. Both oils can also be added directly into the hair color mixture for protection and increased shine and manageability. Moroccan Oil has a lighter oil treatment made for fine or light colored hair called ‘Moroccan Oil Treatment Light’ and Macadamia Oil has one as well called ‘Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment Spray‘.

What a wonderful post! Thank you. I simply love my Argan oil.. It may be expensive, but it sure works! Can’t live without it..
However, I would like to point out that someone told me that Moroccan Oil and Argan Oil are two different oils. They are not the same!
Anyhow, Argan oil is an excellent pampering beauty must-have for anyone who wants to have a good complexion (for both sexes) and smooth hair, cuticle and all that. Unfortunately, the oil is not well-known enough yet in the beauty world.
Anyhow, I came across another very good and systematic article that enlists all the advantages of Argan Oil and how we can use it in our daily lives to improve our beauty the natural way: http://www.holisticlivingannex.com/2012/05/secret-of-argan-oil-for-beauty.html
Cheers! Keep it up and write more!

Thank you for your comment! When I refer to Moroccan Oil in the blog I am referring to the name of a brand who makes hair products. Moroccan Oil is just a name, but Argan Oil is the main ingredient in those products. You’re certainly right about the benefits of this amazing oil – it works great! So many haircare lines are now coming out with some time of Argan Oil product. Thank you for sharing the article with us!

I want to thank you for this knowledgeable article. I have just starting to see Argan Oil in stores and in the Avon Book. I have been using Macadamia Natural Oil. I currently wear my hair twisted and sometimes press and curl. I’m a natural hair care product seeker. Products that’s natural to the hair and help elimate frizz, and dryness. I don’t like heavy oils and ones that make my hair hard and stiff. Again thank you for sharing this information with me, I see I can stay with my Macadamia oil or if I change up to Moroccan Oil, I;m still in the same family line.
