What are Makeup and Skin Primers?

Friday July 20th, 2012

I’m sure you’ve heard of them, maybe you use them or have tried them in the past.  What exactly is a primer anyways? What do they do? And, who are they good for?

Think of paint primer.  You put it on before you paint so that the paint sticks and shows its true color right? That goes the same for base coats with nail polish and it’s basically the same idea with skin primers.  Most are applied to the skin after moisturizer and before makeup.  There are all different types out there, but the basic primers all serve the same purpose:

Smooth out lines and wrinkles

Smooth out uneven texture

Diminish pores to provide a flawless finish

Hold makeup in place for longer wear

Control shine

Basic primers are great for anyone who wears makeup on their skin (liquid foundation, cream foundation, powder, etc.) and wants more of a flawless texture.

Our favorite basic primers:

Glo Minerals Glo Face Primer (0.5 oz.)

Youngblood Mineral Makeup Primer   Mica Beauty Makeup Primer   Glo Minerals Glo Face Primer

There are also primers for specific skin concerns such as oiliness and anti-aging.  They cover all of the basic primer functions with added ingredients to treat the skin as well.

Jane Iredale Absence Oil Control Primer is a cream to powder texture that can be applied with a foundation brush, sponge, or fingertips.  It helps to control excess oil and shine which in turn prevents makeup color change and allows makeup to stay in place longer.  It also diminishes the look of enlarged pores and contains anti-bacterial beeswax.

Jan Marini Age Intervention Prime smooths the skin texture and minimizes pores & imperfections for that ‘airbrushed’ look.  Meanwhile, the skin is rejuvenated with a potent combination of anti-aging and anti-inflammatory ingredients such as peptides, Co-Enzyme Q-10, and hyaluronic acid.

I’ve tried all different primers and I find that the Jane Iredale Absence Oil Control Primer works best for my oily, breakout-prone skin.  I apply it with my fingertip just to my t-zone.  It minimizes my pores, controls shine, and makes my makeup stick longer.  Do you use a primer? Which one is your favorite?

Jan Marini Age Intervention Dark Circle Eye Defense: Product Review

Tuesday June 12th, 2012

When I heard about the Jan Marini Age Interention Dark Circle Eye Defense I just had to try it.

I’ve had dark eye circles for as long as I can remember and none of the eye products I have tried in the past have worked.

This unique eye treatment comes in a capsule form which means you get a fresh dose of ingredients every time you use it.  You apply a small amount of product to the dark area (under the eye only) and I found that there was so much product in each capsule that I could use the same one 3-4 times!  It’s a clearish, velvety, gel-like consistency that just melts right into the skin.

Jan Marini Skin Research is a medical grade skin care line that is a pioneer in the field of anti-aging and intensive, result oriented skincare solutions.  Jan Marini uses the latest technology in Dark Circle Eye Defense and has utilized specific ingredients to address the main causes of dark circles: clogged capillaries, iron discoloration in the blood, thin/fragile skin, pigmentation in the skin, and inflammation.

Retinol

This form of vitamin A penetrates into the skin to rejuvenate, smooth fine lines & wrinkles, reduce pigmentation, and increase the production of collagen.

Peptides

Peptides strengthen the skin and reduce fine lines & wrinkles

Chrysin

This enzyme clears out backed up hemoglobin in the blood vessels and allows for greater micro-circulation under the eye.

Results: After just a couple of weeks I started to notice that the skin in my eye area was firmer. I wasn’t sure if the dark circles were being diminished until I looked at the before and after pictures and as you can see there is quite a difference!

Would I recommend Jan Marini Age Intervention Dark Circle Eye Defense? Definitely!
