Camping Essentials: How to Keep it Simple Without Neglecting your Skin Health
Thursday August 16th, 2012

You’re supposed to be ‘roughing it’, I know, but if you’re like me and you just can’t go for a weekend without at least the bare minimum in grooming, this guide is for you.
1. Face Cleanser
Fine, skip the toner, skip the exfoliator, skip the serum, skip the eye cream, I don’t care… but please don’t skip the cleanser! Your skin is going to exposed to all different types of environmental debris that you are going to want to wash away at the end of the day. Our skin naturally detoxifies at night, so I like to cleanse in the morning as well. If you’re only going to cleanse just once, do it at night.
Caudalie Cleansing Water is great for all skin types. It cleanses skin and removes makeup in one simple step without the need for water. Simply swipe over skin with a cotton pad and don’t rinse.
2. Moisturizer
When you spend a lot of time outdoors it’s even more important not to skip on your moisturizer. Added sun exposure and environmental exposure will be sure to cause dehydration and irritation if you don’t keep your skin protected. Use at least some sort of basic hydrator to hold the water in your skin and keep outside aggressors out.
Jane Iredale ‘Glow Time’ Mineral BB Cream takes tinted moisturizer to the next level! This tinted cream evens skin tone, evens skin texture, covers imperfections, brightens, provides anti-oxidant protection, AND hydrates skin! This is great for outdoor activities because you can feel comfortable skipping the makeup since it leaves a flawless finish.
Eminence Persimmon & Cantaloupe Day Cream SPF32 is a light-weight, protective hydrator that provides a full spectrum SPF32. Also contains tons of antioxidants for added skin protection.
3. Sun Protection
If you don’t already have an SPF in your moisturizer, make sure that you are putting one on top of your moisturizer. Creams, liquids, and sprays get absorbed into the skin so be sure to re-apply every 2 hours. Mineral powders don’t get absorbed, but they do need to be re-applied after swimming and sweating just to be sure.
Vivierskin Sun Protection SPF45 is lightweight and suitable for all skin types including sensitive.
Cellex-C Sunshade SPF30+ is an oil-free sunscreen lotion that is great for all skin types especially oily and acne.
Eminence Sun Defense Minerals SPF30 is a dry mineral sunscreen that evens skin tone. It comes in 6 shades (including translucent) and comes with a built in brush!
4. Body
In my opinion, the minimum steps you should take in body care while camping are sun protection and deodorant. If you have access to water, bathe your body daily and apply sun protection afterward. Remember to re-apply your sun protection throughout the day. If you don’t have access to water, you can still cleanse your body using a cleansing wipe.
Eminence Tropical Vanilla Body SPF32 protects the skin on your body and smells great!
Fake Bake Passionfruit Exfoliating Wipes remove dead skin cells, sweat, oils, moisturizers, sunscreens, and just about anything else without bathing.
Butter London Mucky Pups Foot Wipes are for humans, contrary to the name! They work great to quickly clean your feet and hands when you don’t have soap & water.
5. Hair
Most people will keep their hair in a pony tail while camping and don’t tend to worry too much about it. If your hair is too short for a pony or if you just really want to wear it down, but it looks really dirty, use a dry shampoo. Dry shampoos absorb oils to freshen the look of your hair and don’t require any water.
Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo. Just spray, wait a minute, and comb, or gently work through hair.
Now that you have your quick and simple camping beauty routine taken care of, all you have to worry about is not burning your hotdog on the campfire!
