10 steps to younger-looking skin

Monday April 23rd, 2012

Environmental exposure, poor diet, lifestyle, illness, and just plain old aging all have a big impact on how our skin looks.  When you see a young healthy skin (think children!), what does it look like? Its plump, hydrated, even-toned, clear, and glowing.  Here are 5 lifestyle habits to stop right now and then 5 skin care methods to start right now that will help bring that youthful look back to your skin:

1. Stop smoking

Cigarettes smoke is full of toxic chemicals which prevent the skin from properly functioning and slowly poisons it to death.  Cigarette smoking uses up the body’s Vitamin C which is responsible for preserving the collagen in our skin.  The result: dull, sallow, sagging skin with lines and wrinkles.

2. Stop exposing your skin UV rays

UV exposure (throughout the whole year) leads to an increase of the production of an enzyme in our skin which actually breaks down our collagen and elastin fibres leading to visible skin aging.  Not to mention the chance of irregular melanin clustering (age spots or sun spots) which are an absolute tell-tale sign of skin age.

3. Stop eating a nutrition-less diet

Don’t count calories, count nutritional value! Is the food you are eating benefiting your body with antioxidants?  If you aren’t taking in antioxidants in the form of fruits, vegetables, berries, herbs, fish, whole grains, nuts etc. how do you expect your body to stay healthy (including the largest organ of your body – the skin)?

4. Stop using soap to cleanse

If you are still using soap or even shower gel (yikes!) to cleanse your skin, it’s time to move into a proper cleansing regime.  Soaps dry the skin and strip the skin’s natural protective barrier leaving it exposed to outside attack.  Long-term sensitivity, redness, and irritation (not to mention lines and wrinkles from dehydration) are characteristic of a soap user’s skin.

5. Stop being a couch potato

Exercising increases blood flow and oxygen flow resulting in fresh, detoxified skin.

1. Start cleansing properly

Use a soap-free cleanser that’s made for your specific skin type. Try Comfort Zone Everyday Milk

2. Start exfoliating with an effective exfoliator

Our skin’s natural exfoliation really slows down as we age which is why we need to speed it back up to get rid of the dead, dull skin cells and keep the new, fresh ones on the surface.  Try Comfort Zone Skin Resonance Peeling

3. Start loading your skin with antioxidants

Antioxidants protect your skin from free radical damage.  Free radicals attack your skin and cause skin aging, furthermore they cause mutations and can even lead to skin cancer.  Since serums have the highest concentration of active ingredients, use a serum with a high antioxidant content (Vitamin C is an excellent antioxidant). Try Comfort Zone Absolute Pearl Whitening Anti-Aging Defense Serum

4. Start using eye treatment products

Since the skin around the eye is thin, fragile, and lacking oil glands it’s the first place we tend to see the signs of aging.  Use of a treatment product made for use in the eye area is essential in keeping your skin looking youthful. Try Comfort Zone Eye Supreme Extra Cream

5. Start wearing an SPF every single day

UVA rays are present every single day of the year, rain or shine, and they are the rays that are responsible for skin aging (remember that enzyme in your skin that gets activated with UV exposure and breaks down our collagen and elastin fibres?).  UVA rays even pass right through glass so your skin is being attacked when your driving in your car, sitting at your desk beside the window, or even washing dishes in front of your kitchen window.  Use of an SPF every day is mandatory even if you don’t spend much time outdoors. Try Eminence Organics Sun Defence Minerals

GM Collin’s Newest Addition

Wednesday January 11th, 2012

Being that GM Collin is so well-known for their innovations in anti-aging skincare, it’s no surprise that they’ve come out with a brand new technology and a brand new product! It’s called GF Advanced Repair Serum and is made for use on mature skin with obvious signs of cellular damage (lines, wrinkles, loss of elasticity etc.).

Two Types of Skin Aging
Skin aging can be classified as being biological (genetically determined by our biological clock) or environmental (determined by extrinsic factors such as UV damage). According to GM Collin, the breakthrough in epigenetic and gene science combined with growth factor technology allow a direct ‘time reverse’ action on both genetic and extrinsic factors to help delay the visible signs of aging.

What does all of this mean?
Growth factors are naturally occurring substances (that are depleted as we age) which can stimulate cellular growth, regulate cellular processes, repair damaged cells, rejuvenate aging tissues, and help to maintain optimum functions of the skin – all of which are vital for maintaining a youthful appearance. The GF Advanced Repair Serum contians 4 different growth factors.

Clock Genes
Clock genes are responsible for regulating the cycle in which the cells turn on and off their repair function. This function coordinates with UV exposure to repair at night and protect during the day. Over time these genes become de-synchronized dramatically increasing the skin’s aging process (repair capacity drops by 50% by the age of 50!). GF Advanced Repair Serum uses a peptide called ‘tetrapeptide 26′ to re-synchronize the internal clock of skin cells. This will greatly boost the skin’s natural repair process and defense mechanisms.

Last but not Least
GM Collin has one more trick up its sleeve: a peptide and protein complex. This complex provides an integral treatment to improve the overall collagen quality in our skin. To make a long story short, GF Advanced Repair Serum is formulated to boost the skin’s natural repair and protection processes which will prevent and delay the visible signs of aging.

Results
In GM Collin’s 35 day clinical trial users reported up to a 94% reduction in forehead wrinkles and a 69% reduction in nasolabial fold lines. In 14 days pore size was reduced by up to 35% and skin firmness was increased by up to 61%.

GF Advanced Repair Serum is applied 1-2 times per day on cleansed face, neck, and decolette. A small amount is all you need and this light fluid absorbs into the skin very quickly. Remember that this is not a moisturizer so you will want to apply your moisturizer right after your serum.
