Coming Soon: Limited Edition Jane Iredale Sweet 15 Kit
Wednesday July 8th, 2009

Every so often a product comes along that just seems too intensely awesome to be true.
Those of you out there with a love of mineral makeup, of palettes or of simply beautiful makeup colours must listen up.
Within the next week Jane Iredale will finally be releasing their 15th anniversary kit called Sweet 15.
It blows my mind. I first caught glimpses of it on when it was given as a gift to company workers in Asia. Then there were whispers of it exclusively at Nordstroms in the US. Here in Canada we get everything a bit later, and I was starting to be pretty sure it was never going to be a “thing” for us.
Let me reveal to you the unbelievable nature of what they are offering up:
- 15 eyeshadows, 7 of which are brand new colors (Oyster, Peach Sherbet, Glimmer Gold, Copper Brown-new, Topaz Sparkle-new, Taupe, Aquamarine, Dark Suede, Petal Shimmer-new, pink Cloud-new, Sparkle Dust-new, Bubbly-new, Silver-new, Supernova and Charcoal.)
- 3 blushes. Cotton Candy (cool, gold flecked pink) and Whisper (warm, gold flecked peach) and Bronzer
- 3 lip plumpers. Milan, LA, Tokyo. Beautifully sheer, hydrating plumpers
So that’s 21 products that at an invidual cost would be upwards of $350. The cost of this jem? Around $90.
$90.
I am giddy.
So if you feel like your makeup stash is needing a bit of an overhaul, you would like to up the quality of what you’re using on your skin everyday, or if you just love beautiful things; you are going to want to keep your eyes peeled for this.
They are limited edition and will sell VERY QUICKLY due to how wonderful of a deal it is.
We’ve been told we’ll be getting ours sometime next week and there will be a pre-order option for all of our customers that have purchased Jane Iredale from us before.

How to do Smoky Eyes for the Holidays
Thursday November 20th, 2008
Party season is upon us, and there are multiple occasions for you to try out different looks for yourself. As a fan of drama and glitter and feathers and what not, I kind of adore the sultry look. I’ve been to a few makeup training sessions and the professionals always want to demonstrate the “Smoky Eye”. There’s something ridiculous alluring about all that dark makeup drawing attention to our eyes. It’s an intimidating concept (hence even the pros demanding multiple demos) but with a little practice you’ll get comfortable and figure out the look that works best for you.
- Prep the area! This is one look you definitely want to stay put. Use a lid primer or even a liquid foundation and follow with a light dusting of your facial powder. This will create a solid base to keep your makeup ravishing.
- Starting with a lighter base color (shimmery, but not metallic) apply to the middle of the lid from the lash line. Highlight under the eyebrow from arch to outer edge.
Line around the entire eye with a black eye pencil or use shadow applied with an eye liner brush. Use a q-tip to gently smudge into the lash line and keep everything under control
Choose your darker color. Blacks, grays, browns, greens, they all work. Be bold! This is where you have options and get to play. Fun!You can apply the darker color to the entire lid area to the crease. Blend into the brow highlighter, hard edges with eye makeup are not cute. Apply a little more shimmery color to the middle of the lid or the inner eye to add glamor. Follow with a couple of coats of black mascara and then smolder away! - A little more advanced technique is applying the colors in a v-shape. Apply your shimmer base color. Line the eye area and smudge. Taking the darker shadow start ¾ of the way in along the lash line and extend to the outer eye, thickening the line along the way. With the outer eye representing the point of the “v”, apply the darker color in the crease area. This leaves the inner portion of the lid a lighter color. You could add another color in there if you’re feeling adventurous. Try and keep everything within the same color scheme. Now blend like you’ve never blended before! Follow with mascara.
There are several different patterns you could use. Take a look at magazines and see what those crazy, famous women are up to. There are limitless ways to combine colors and placement to create a look that is distinctly you!
A few tips I’ve learned along the way:
- Press the dark shadows into the skin as opposed to sweeping or brushing it on. This keeps the color where you want it, not flying all over the rest of your face. You can also hold a folded tissue under the eye area. Q-tips are great for tidying and smudging as well.
- Always blend to remove edges, but not to the point where you tone down the color.
- Mascara makes a huge difference. The process can look a little strange until you finish up with the mascara. It completes the look. So be patient.
- Keep the lips in a neutral tone. Focus on one feature to avoid looking clownish
Don’t be intimidated by this look. There’s a reason why it almost never goes out of fashion. The holidays give you the perfect excuse to sparkle and shine, so use it!

How to Apply Summer Makeup and Tips
Sunday June 29th, 2008
Summer is a time where the “less is more” concept applies. Not only does it apply for clothing, but especially for makeup. Makeup should not be heavy and it should be easy and fast. The heat and humidity are a challenge, so you have to make a few little changes to your routine. Summer makeup is mostly aimed at protecting the skin from exposure to sun rays, avoid excessive sweating, cut out the oily shine and prevent clogging of skin pores that often result in acne and pimples. Summer is full of pleasures — but who wants melting makeup, sliding eyeliner, and super sticky lipstick?
Spa girl shares some amazingly easy-to-follow tips to ensure you’ll look your best, keep your skin healthy and make you pretty like sunshine – no matter how hot it gets this summer.
1 – Essential Protection From Sun:
- Protect your skin from damage by using a moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher. Daily use will help to combat those early signs of aging such as sunspots and fine lines. Remember that you are exposed to harmful UVA and UVB rays even on a cloudy day. Apply an SPF moisturizer to a clean face and allow 10 minutes for it to absorb before applying your foundation or powder.
2- Lighten up Face Makeup & Foundations:
- Keep it light this summer. The use of translucent powder is also best for your summer makeup, as this will bring out the dewy face in you that is just perfectly right for the summer season. Summer’s the time to allow the skin to breathe and shine through. When the warm weather hits you might find that foundation feels too heavy on your skin. My pick is Jane Iredale Beyond Matte in translucent.
- Try using alternatives to foundations such as tinted moisturizers with SPF. Just make sure it is oil-free so it doesn’t separate in the heat. Apply the tinted moisturizer with a damp sponge and you’ll be sure to get an even look. A little concealer dabbed under the eye will give added radiance. Don’t have a tinted moisturizer? Then make you own, mix your current moisturizer with foundation. Followed by a light translucent powder to set it. My favorite tinted moisturizer is Jane Iredale Dream Tint with SPF15 with Jane Iredale Active Light Conceealer under my eyes.
- Not enough coverage? Try brushing powder foundation over the tinted moisturizer in spots where you need a little extra coverage — say, on blemishes or areas of redness around your nose. Try Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Minerals SPF 20.
- Instead of using foundation to cover up freckles, use a sheer, loose powder. Let your inner child shine through. Foundation applications should be sheer so that way your natural skin can shine through. My pick is Jane Iredale Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder.
3- Stop Shine and Touch Ups:
- A slick T-zone instantly gives the message “I’m hot” — and I don’t mean sexy. To eliminate unsightly shine in seconds, blot any perspiration or excess oil buildup with non-powdered blotting papers. My pick is Jane Iredale Facial Blotting Sheets – they are all natural and chemical free. Or substitute a clean tissue, pressing gently into moist areas.
- If you need to perk up your makeup too, blot first, then follow up with a dusting of pressed powder with a hint of luminescence. If you find that pressed powder has the tendency to cake and clump when hit with moisture on your skin, use loose powder as an alternate.
- Remove under-eye foundation or powder buildup with a clean cotton swab. Resist the temptation to reapply unless you feel it absolutely necessary.
4- Faking it and Bronze Believably:
- On a lovely summer’s day there is nothing better than the appearance of a healthy glow to make you feel better, and one of the easiest ways of achieving this is with bronzing powder. Bronzers makes your eyes look brighter, your teeth whiter — everyone looks better with a little warmth added to their skin.
- Mimic natural sun-splashed skin with bronzers. To keep the results looking fresh and natural, apply bronzer just to the high points of your face, where the sun naturally hits you. These areas include the forehead, under the cheekbones, chin, bridge of the nose, tops of shoulders, collarbone and even cleavage to complete the illusion. And be sure to sweep a little bronzer onto your neck and earlobes, especially if you have short hair or are wearing a ponytail. Start with a light layer; build the color gradually. My favorite pick is Jane Iredale Rose Dawn Quad Bronzer.
- Another essential for keeping it real: a brush with long, loose, fluffy bristles — anything densely packed will deposit too much color. Dip the brush into the bronzer powder, swirl, knock off excess powder and apply with a tap.
5- Sunny & Luscious Lips:
- When you’ve got a slight tan, a touch of lipstick or lip-gloss is often all you need to face the world. Avoid using lip liner for summer makeup, as lip liners do not look good during this time of the year. Forget matte and powdery lipsticks and go for gloss, in transparent, pink or fruity colors. You can choose some colors you wouldn’t normally wear because most glosses are sheer. My pick is Youngblood Mineral Makeup Lip Gloss (especially the Delicious color).
- Protect your lips. Make sure it has your SPF because your lips really need protection from the sun! Use a good quality gloss or lip balm without petroleum to keep them soft and supple. Petroleum-based lip balms actually dry your lips. My pick is Jane Iredale Lip Drink SPF 15.
- Have dry dull lips? Bring back your lips back to life with Jane Iredale Sugar & Butter Lip Scrub & Plumper – an all-natural combination of beeswax and organic brown sugar. One side is a lip exfoliator that smoothes away rough, dry patches and the other is a Lip plumper that moisturizes with shea butter and peptides.
6 – Sun Kissed Cheeks:
- Create a “sun kissed” flush on the cheeks for a natural glow. The easiest way to achieve a healthy natural glow is with blush. Apply blush along your cheekbones or the apples of your cheeks, depending on your face shape. Remember to blend thoroughly until you get the soft natural glow that you’re looking for and an even complexion. My pick is Youngblood Mineral Makeup Crushed Mineral Blush.
7- Neutralizing Eyes:
- Eyes should be done simply. Use neutral and soft shimmer eye shadow on lids and work on lashes instead. My pick is Youngblood Crushed Mineral Eyeshadows – they are perfect and light for summer and I also like the two lighter colors in Jane Iredale Moonglow Quad Bronzer.
- If it’s really hot and you don’t want to go to the effort of applying a full make-up, a touch of mascara and a little eye liner (very fine line) will ‘open’ up the eye and bring your face to life. You can also try colored mascara on its own with no shadow or liner, and just a dusting of pearly powder on the eyelid.
- To complete your summer look, remember to have your eyebrows professionally shaped. Groom and shape eyebrows – it’s the first step in getting your eyes to look great without actually applying makeup. You can even use a little hairspray or hair gel on an old, cleaned mascara brush to keep brows put or use Jane Iredale PureBrow Fix.
8 – Preventing Runny Makeup:
- Even after applying smudge- and waterproof eyeliner and mascara, you still wind up with raccoon eyes. How does that happen? Your cream-based moisturizer or sunscreen may be to blame. Their residual oils can leave behind a slippery film that makes it hard for makeup to stick. Switch to lightweight, less emollient, or gel products, which won’t travel. Allow these treatments to fully absorb (at least 5 minutes) before applying makeup.
9 – Waterproofing:
- There is nothing worse than running mascara, so if you’re planning a beach holiday, consider your choice of mascara. Waterproof mascara is great, but you’ll probably need an oil-based eye make-up remover to take it off properly so that you don’t get an unsightly build-up. If you feel like splurging on great mascara, my pick is Blinc Kiss Me Mascara. It’s a great alternative to an oil-based waterproof mascara – its revolutionary application forms a tiny tube around every lash. It is smudge proof and doesn’t’ run. It will come off only with warm water and a very gently pressure.
10 – Heat Proofing Makeup:
- For a cool, tasty treat, keep a stick or two of your favorite lip balm in the refrigerator or cooler when you are by the pool. Fruity favorites become even more refreshing when chilled.
- Keep a bottle of facial spray in the refrigerator. Most facial sprays will hydrate and protect your skin when exposed in the dry sun. My pick is Jane Iredale Pom Mist Facial Spritz, it contains pomegranate extract and UV protector. When the dry hot sun makes my fine lines show up, this spray conceals them back where they belong!
- Wear a trendy sun hat – keep your face cooler from the sun and helps keep your makeup looking fresh and alive!

How to Conceal Skin Flaws with Mineral Makeup
Monday February 26th, 2007
- Silky lightness – you skin breathes more.
- Mineral Makeup concealers work undercover without anyone noticing them.
- Natural – Mineral Makeup has no harmful ingredients (no parabens, dyes, chemicals or fillers).
- Last longer – without the need of touch-ups.
- Use less – premium quality.
Concealing Different Skin Flaws Types – Some Suggestions to Follow with Mineral Make-up:
Rosacea and Redness:
- Use a yellow-based mineral to cover redness. Not Green!
- Use either Amazing Base Loose Powder or PurePressed Mineral Base, apply the first layer with a flocked sponge with a pressing, rocking motion. For very red complexions, it is suggested to use warm sienna first to neutralize the red. For the final color stage use a brush, which will give the final natural look.
- Use D20 Hydration Spray or Balance Antioxidant Spray to set the base.
Broken Capillaries and Spider Veins:
- Use the above recommended products for redness in the area of concern.
- Apply Jane Iredale PurePressed Minerals then spritz with Jane Iredales Hydration D20 Spritzto blend and take away ‘powdery’ look.
- Alternatively, for normal skin you can use Amazing Base Loose Powder with moisturizer- to conceal large pores. Mix a small amount of powder into your favorite moisturizer, then apply as you would a cream foundation.
- For oily skin use Jane Iredale’s PurePressed Minerals with Balance Antioxidant Spray.
- Use PurePressed base – it is more matte than the loose.
- For oily skin apply Jane Iredales Absence Oil Control Primer before Pure Pressed Base to prime the skin, control oil and to prevent color change.
- For oily skin, use a translucent powder like Jane Iredales PureMatte finish powder to blot shiny areas throughout the day.
- To cover acne use Disappear Camouflage Cream before your prescribed mineral base- apply with camouflage brush, layer and feather the product until you have coverage. Finish with your prescribed mineral base.
- For scars and acne scars – use Disappear Camouflage Cream – apply with camouflage brush, layer and feather the product until you have coverage. Finish with your prescribed mineral base.
- For very dark bruising, discoloration and tattoos use Disappear- apply with camouflage brush, layer and feather the product until you have coverage. Finish with your prescribed mineral base.
Dark Eye Circles and Puffiness:
- Use Jane Iredale Active Light Under Eye Concealer - It’s nourishing oils provide a base for vitamin K to lighten dark circles around your eyes and buckwheat wax to fight the puffiness. Twist the bottom portion of the wand to retrieve desired amount of product. Smooth over the under-eye area until product is distributed evenly. Active Light can be applied before or after foundation bases.
- For dark circles use Amazing Base Loose Powder- to conceal under the eyes, you will need a little more coverage. Mix a small amount of powder into your favorite moisturizer, then apply as you would a cream foundation.
- Use Jane Iredale’s Circle/Delete Concealer under your prescribed mineral base. For very dark circles you can layer concealer, minerals then concealer. Use of thin layers for optimal results.
- Use Jane Iredale’s Liquid Minerals around the eyes as a concealer. It will minimize fine lines. Liquid Minerals ingredients also work as an anti-aging treatment.
- Apply Liquid Minerals with fingers, flocked sponge or a foundation brush.
- Use the Camouflage brush as a small liquid foundation brush for areas around the lip and nose. Finish with a flocked sponge.
- Use PurePressed Minerals not loose. Spritz with D20 Hydration Spray and blot, or mix the loose minerals into a moisturizer and make a cream foundation. If the minerals appear to accentuate lines under the eyes, dampen a cotton pad and D20 Spritz and gently press it on the problem area or dab on a small amount of moisturizer.
