Ravishing Red Lips: 10 great tips
Tuesday January 24th, 2012

Red lips seem to be all the rage this season popping up in all of the most fashion-forward magazines around the world! If you’re like me and you never go beyond the barely noticeable pale pinks, but wish you could do the red and just don’t know how, follow this guide for some great tips from the experts:
1. Find the right shade for your skin tone: If you have a cool complexion, choose cooler reds like a true red or a pinkish red. If you have a warm complexion, choose warmer reds with a brown base, like a brick or rusty red
2. If you are unsure about your shade choose a cool, blue-red shade because they are more flattering to most complexions than warm reds with orange tones.
3. Line lips with a lip pencil before applying lipstick to prevent the color from seeping into fine lines or feathering outside the lip line
4. Fill in lips with lip pencil to act as a primer – lipstick will last longer and stay put
5. After you’ve applied your color, blot with a tissue, then re-apply color for more drama
6. If your teeth are not-so-white a warm toned red can make them look yellow, blue-toned reds can make teeth look whiter
7. Keep the rest of your makeup subtle! If you go for a bold lip don’t go for a bold eye or cheek (less is more)
6. If you aren’t quite ready for a full-on red lip, ease into it with a gloss as they can be a bit more sheer
7. Red lips can bring out red imperfections in the skin so be sure to cover blemishes with a yellow-based concealer
8. Use a lip brush for more control
9. Pair your red lips with a red accessory or a red nail polish
10. Deep reds can make thin lips look smaller so if you are thin-lipped you might want to use a lip plumper to add more volume

Tips and Tricks for How To Use Bronzers
Wednesday June 24th, 2009
July is all about the blushes and bronzers. Who doesn’t love a Golden Goddess, Healthy Flush look to the skin?
With bronzers you can get a beautiful, tanned look without sun damage or somewhat difficult-to-apply-self-tanners.
However, there are tips and tricks to keep from looking like you’re wearing too much bronzer. It’s all about keeping it natural looking, as I’m going to reinforce a billion times throughout this post.
We’re going to go over a few tips that will make any application super easy for you.
1) Don’t be scared of them! Bronzers can be used even on the palest of skin. Try and find a slightly lighter bronzer, OR use a darker foundation/powder, 1-2 shades should be fine. Just make sure it has a warm undertone so it won’t look muddy. Jane Iredale has a few official bronzers, but any of their darker pressed powders can work as well. Bonus: If you hate sparkle or shimmer, using a darker foundation will mean you get a matte look.
2) Pick the right one for your skin type. Oilier skins do best with a powder bronzer, possibly with a touch of shimmer. Dry, mature skins can use cream bronzers (unfortunately we dont’ carry any). It’s best to avoid shimmer if you have mature skin as it can highlight any fine lines you may have. Normal skins can revel in sparkles and shimmer if you like that look. Sparkle on! Favorites include Jane Iredales Sunbeam and Youngbloods Lunar Dusts.
3) Layer for a natural look. A light touch is key, you don’t want it to look fake. That would be bad. Use a big, fluffy brush and apply it in sheer layers until you get the amount you want. Place bronzer on cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin. Think of everywhere the sun would hit first. Apply in light circles and blend it outwards. On the cheeks, apply a sheer dusting of blush to add to the healthy glow. Everything should be fairly transparent and not too dark or muddy looking. Build up the color, it’s so much easier to add more than to have to remove product.
4)Natural! Again, this is so important. Eveything should be subtle. If your bronzer is of the shimmering, avoid that in the rest of your makeup. A light lip gloss, some subtle eyeliner and mascara and you should be good to go. Make sure your moisturizer and foundation are completely dry before you apply a bronzer. Powders adhere and set to moisture. You want to be able to blend.
5) Branch out. You can add a light, healthy glow to your shoulders as well. The same rules apply, think of where the sun would hit, and apply it lightly.
It can take a bit of practice, but the pay off is a beautiful, glowing look to the skin. Try it out, take a look in naturally lit rooms, ask friends for honest opinions on whether to add more or tone it down. Once you’ve got your routine, it’s a ridiculously easy way to quickly freshen up your look without tons of makeup.
